2011

Monday 3rd October 2011

Cheviot Hill rams were in demand as the top price reaches £12,000 twice at their annual show and sale held at Lockerbie on Monday 3rd October 2011.

A huge crowd of buyers and enthusiasts, especially customers from Wales, gathered for this noted sale. Trade throughout was very strong which resulted in the averages showing a rise on the year with 110 two shear rams levelling out at £749 and 189 shearling rams at £937.40. The overall average was 299 rams at £872.96 which is up £22.63 on the year.

Topping the sale at £12,000 were two shearling ram entries both shown by Jim Robertson of the Becks, Langholm. The first was for an ARR/ARR shearling ram sired by Kale JR and was purchased by Firm of Stirkfield Farms. The second entry followed a few lots later from the Becks pen, a son of the homebred sire Becks EM&EM which was knocked down to a joint purchase of J Common & Son of Crossdykes Farm, Langholm and Messrs Bridgewater & Wood of Potholm, Langholm.

The Stirkfield pen from Blair and Morag Cockburn topped at £9,000 for a shearling ram. Sired by Skelfhill Hercules, this ram was purchased by Jim Robertson of the Becks, Langholm.

Also selling at £9,000 was a shearling entry from Messrs Weir of Mainside Farm, Hownam. Their leading ram was by Mainside Nelson and sold to a joint purchase of Jim Robertson of the Becks, Langholm and P Jackson of the Roan, Newcastleton.

The next leading price tag came from the Beck pen again from Messrs Robertson. A shearling sired by Kale Zephyr, he went to WA Fleming, Hislop, Teviothead, Hawick for £8,200.

Reaching the £8,000 mark was the top entry from WJ Douglas & Son of Upper Hindhope, Jedburgh. This was a son of Kale Yahoo and was purchased by Aithrie Estates of Snarr Farm, Crawfordjohn and RH paton of Gateslack, Thornhill.

The overall championship of the day was won by WN Douglas of Catslackburn, Yarrow for a group one North Shortcleugh Cobbler sired ram. He sold for £4000 going to Cnewr Estate Ltd, Sennybridge, Brecon.

The reserve championship ticket was presented to WA Fleming of Hislop, Teviothead for the first entry of his pen. This was a ram by Cowburn Boss and sold for £7,500 to J McNeil of Glenjaan, Moniaive, Dumfries.
