The Cheviot Hills, from which this breed of sheep gets its name, form the border line between England and Scotland. The Cheviot Sheep Society was formed in 1890 and is one of the oldest sheep societies in existence.
Show and Sale of Prime Hoggs

The special show of prime Cheviot hoggs held on behalf of the Hill Cheviot Sheep Society was very well supported.
Mr Michael Bowe, Penrith, acted as judge for the day and after much deliberation he awarded his Champion pen to Messrs Miller, Woodhousehill for their pen of 44kg hoggs which later sold for the section’s top price of £102 to the judge.
The Reserve Championship went to the medium weight class winners shown by Messrs Cavers, Hoghill. Weighing 40.5kgs they sold at £98 to Mr Andrew Dawson.
